The deal of the day on 24MX.

Is Malcolm Stewart going to be replaced on the MotoConcepts squad? There is a lot of racing left to run, of course, and the CRF450R will be vacant. Tony Alessi, the MotoConcepts team manager, has confirmed that they will not be hiring a fill-in rider. The statement can be read in full below.

"I have been asked several times since Saturday night about a fill-in spot for @MalcolmStewart… Well, let me say that no one is capable of filling those shoes!! @MalcolmStewart is hands down the most talented rider I have ever worked with and to add to that he's a fun guy, well liked by everyone and a dude committed to excellence. @MalcolmStewart, your bike will be proudly displayed at the rest of the supercross rounds in your honour. To say you'll be missed would be a massive understatement, so get well bud and focus on being the 2020 SX champion!"

Malcolm Stewart has now taken to Instagram to update his legion of fans. "Such a bummer on what happened last night," he wrote. "Surgery this A.M. on femur! We will be back better than ever. Sorry I let you guys down! I appreciate all the prayers you guys sent me! I'll give you guys a update soon." His post can be viewed below.

Malcolm Stewart has arguably been one of the most exciting stories in the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross; he really did look like a new man and appeared to be on the verge of his first podium finish in the premier class. That momentum came to a screeching halt in the main event at round two, Glendale, though, as his back wheel missed a whoop and therefore he lost control at the end of the section. The impact was horrific and prompted a red flag.

Stewart was eventually taken away in the back of the medic's mule, but was fully responsive and waved to the crowd as he exited the stadium. Now, in the hours following the event, it has become apparent that he broke his femur and will undergo surgery today (Sunday). Details are sparse at the moment, as it is so early, so stay tuned to this page for more. There is no doubt that he will not return before the end of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross series though.
