The Gebben Van Venrooy Racing team have finally made their plans for the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship official! There is a lot to unpack here. First of all, the team will make the switch to Yamaha after piloting green bikes since they entered the Grand Prix series for the first time. Thomas Covington, Calvin Vlaanderen and Alessandro Lupino will race in MXGP for them.

Thomas Covington is back following a stint in the United States, but he has just aged out of the MX2 class and will therefore make his 450F debut in 2020. "I'm super excited to be coming back to MXGP for the 2020 season, especially with a great team like Gebben Van Venrooy with the support from Yamaha," Covington said. "I'm looking forward to a fresh start to show what I can do in the premier class."

Calvin Vlaanderen has been on the outside looking in for a lot of silly season but has finally landed a ride that will ensure he can compete in all twenty rounds of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship. "I am really excited to have signed with Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha Supported MXGP team for 2020 and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity," Vlaanderen said. "I'm really motivated to move up to the 450cc and although everything will be new to me and it will definitely be a learning year, I feel I have had some incredible experiences in MX2 that I can carry with into the bigger class and I feel like I can get some good result. The team is awesome and extremely motivated especially with the switch to Yamaha, and I get a good feeling from that. I know that we will work very hard for the upcoming season."

Alessandro Lupino was already under contract with the team and will therefore continue with them in their switch to blue. Lupino has actually thrived within this environment – injuries did not give him an opportunity to prove that this year though. Twenty-first is where he finished in the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. 2020 will be the final year of his contract.
