The opening round of the Maxxis British Championship, which was set to take place at Lyng this weekend, has been cancelled. The circuit is already in tatters, following the adverse weather that has been experienced in recent weeks, and more rain is forecast for the coming days as well.
"Calling off a meeting of any size is never a decision to be taken lightly, but there has been prolonged heavy rain in the area and with more rain expected over the next few days we’ve been left with no choice," said Stuart Drummond (series manager) in a statement. "The track itself can take a lot of rain – although some parts are heavily waterlogged – but our main concern is the paddock area and spectator car parks. For a meeting of this size and prestige, it is simply unacceptable to have to tow people in and out, not to mention the damage this would do to the land."
Lyng has already been re-scheduled to take place on October 14, so the opening round of the Maxxis British Championship will now be held at Culham on the first day of April.
