EMX Rules: Changes in 2019

Changes to EMX250 and EMX300

Huge news broke on social media earlier today, as it was confirmed by riders in the FIM Motocross World Championship that they have been informed that there will be changes to the EMX classes ahead of the new season. The most noteworthy change is that there will now be an age limit on the EMX250 division, for the first time ever, so no riders older than twenty-three-years-old will be able to compete.

This obviously leaves some in a bind, as deals have already been announced for the new season. Simone Furlotti cannot ride the MX2 class in 2019, so has already agreed on a deal with GBO Motorsports to race in EMX250. The new rule means that he will be unable to fulfil his commitments there. It is also worth noting that the same rule will continue to be in place in MX2, it seems, so nothing is going to change in that area.

Finally, the EMX300 class will now be named the EMX2T class and only feature 250 two-strokes. With the new rule above, it is quite likely that a lot more high-profile riders and teams will be turning their attention to that division. More on this onĀ MX ViceĀ soon.
